Term limits are the only answer

I agree with Frank J. Sasevitch's Sept. 12 Fence Post article, "It's about parties, not the candidates" except for the last paragraph. Mr. Sasevitch blames most of our political problems on all candidates, and Congress in general, who are loyal to their parties and themselves first and the nation as an after-thought. All too true. However, in the last paragraph he wishes us to favor the Democratic presidential candidate and his party because he, and they, are different than the other guy. This is really old stuff.

He continues on by stating that the other guy is part of the help-" the upper classes and corporations" mindset, while his guy will lead us out of this political turmoil into a time of "change." And the proof is, because he says so. The Democratic candidate's well-known choice of friends have interesting backgrounds. Financial advisers like Raines and Johnson, the former heads of Fannie and Freddy who are under investigation for their role in the sinking of those institutions, are his advisers as well as people like billionare Sotos, not a favorite of many European countries, and Warren Buffet, who legally dodges income tax, but pays a lower rate on his dividend income. Does not seem like much of a fresh start here. In Sasevich's last paragraph, I would like to expand his statement on having our senators and representatives to "heed us." The only way is term limits. Otherwise by hook or crook they will find a way to stay in congress in perpetuity by jockeying congressional districts, using their incumbency to the limit and beyond so they may return to serve us forever. Sasevich should stick with the theme that he started and that is: Trust no one, don't let any party entrench themselves. We must turn Congress over every 8 years same as we do with the presidency. Let us face it, there is no messiah. Term limits are the only answer.
