Woman says man raped her in parking lot

Algonquin police arrested a 34-year-old Crystal Lake man Thursday on charges he raped an acquaintance in a Carpentersville restaurant's parking lot.

Mario Lagunes-Rodriguez, 8710 Lakeview Drive, is charged with criminal sexual assault stemming from the incident involving a 30-year-old wife of a friend.

The woman told police she was driving home from work about 8:30 p.m. when a man tried to force her car off the road.

After she pulled into the parking lot, the woman told police, the man he drove up next to her, grabbed her arms through her open window, forced her into the back seat of her car and threatened her with bodily harm if she told anyone about the incident.

After the incident, the woman called police and told them the man again was following her in his car. An Algonquin police officer stopped both drivers on Algonquin Road near Eastgate Road.

The woman was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin and identified Lagunes-Rodriguez as her attacker when police brought him to her, police said.

Police said Lagunes-Rodriguez told them the sex was consensual. But police said he gave them more than one version of the incident.

In court on Friday, Lagunes-Rodriguez said he would like to stay in the United States when Kane County Judge Kevin Busch informed him that Immigration and Customs Enforcement had placed a deportation hold on him.

Lagunes-Rodriguez was unable to post a $20,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail to await his next court date on Oct. 9 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
