Preview: Wheaton Academy at Walther Lutheran
Game time: 7 p.m., today. Serpico Field.
Last year: Walther Lutheran 35, Wheaton Academy 14.
Last week: Wheaton Academy 2, Luther North 0 (forfeit); Walther Lutheran 35, Rockford Christian Life 6.
Outlook: This is the most important game in the brief history of Wheaton Academy's rejuvenated football program.
Upcoming opponents Rockford Christian Life and Lake Forest Academy are a combined 1-7 and Aurora Christian and Chicago Christian are 8-0; this stands as a game the Warriors probably need for any playoff hope.
The goal is a team effort led by defensive ends Matt Hattendorf and Tyler Friedl cracking down on Walther back Brandon Sims, who has run for 408 yards with 227 yards receiving with a combined 12 touchdowns.
In 2007 two-way lineman Perry Brown helped Sims run for 132 yards.
Wheaton Academy lost valuable experience with last week's forfeit victory, but coach Ben Wilson is confident quarterback Brian Pell can keep Walther off balance by distributing the ball to Anthony Ritchie, Jake Jones, Kai Libby, Evan Kilisares and Chris Reddick - if he has the time and space to do so.
