Lakes outlasts Round Lake

Lakes' girls volleyball team was down, but not out.

The Eagles remained undefeated in North Suburban Prairie Division action Wednesday night by outlasting Round Lake 23-25, 25-13, 25-22.

Steffanie Fisher's strong all-around effort led Lakes (7-6, 3-0), as she had 2 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks and 7 assists on 19-of-19 setting.

Lakes' 7 wins matches its total of last season.

The Eagles also got strong matches from Jenna Schellinger (6 blocks, 2 kills), Mandy Fischer (5 blocks, 2 aces), Shanna Hertz (5 blocks) and Rachel Sieracki (39-of-39 setting, 7 assists).

"Great match for us," Lakes coach Carla Thompson said. "We got down early in the first game and staged a comeback but too late. Game 2, we came out as a team and put some great plays together. We were talking and moving and playing great volleyball. You always have to figure that Game 3 is going to be tough. We got a little behind, but we kept it close."

Thompson credited Fisher for ability to direct traffic at the end, allowing Lakes to prevail.

Round Lake got 8 kills from both Myra Edwards and Ashley Phillips, while Annaliese Eaton had six. Stephanie Infante contributed 17 digs and 3 aces. Liz Rodriguez and Stephanie Beres dished out 12 and 10 assists, respectively.

Stevenson d. Warren: The Patriots won 25-19, 25-8 to improve to 14-3 overall and 2-0 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Mary Kate Fritzsche led Stevenson with 9 kills (20-of-20 hitting), 6 aces (11-of-11 serving) and 9 digs.

Taylor Berland added 5 kills, 3 aces and 7 digs, while Izzy Shaindlin recorded 18 digs. Maggie Lundstrom had 10 assists and 29-of-29 setting, and Jenna Przybyla lofted 7 assists on 27-of-27 setting. Maria Skillman (2 kills, 2 solo blocks) and Annelise Docel (2 kills, 3 assisted blocks) were also strong at the net.

Mundelein d. Lake Forest: Brittany Jones served 7 aces and Jennifer Davis slammed 6 kills, as the Mustangs won 25-14, 25-18 for their first North Suburban Lake Division win.

Mundelein (3-14, 1-2) also got 10 assists from Megan Barron, who was 37-of-37 setting, and 3 blocks and 2 kills from Gina Withrow. Jones had 9 digs, as well.

Grant d. North Chicago: C.J. Hill had 5 kills for the Bulldogs in their 25-20, 25-7 win.

Morgan Liles and Stefanie Cahill chipped in 3 kills apiece for Grant in the North Suburban Prairie Division match. Valerie Heelan served 2 aces and dished out 5 assists.

Wauconda d. Zion-Benton: Becky Breakfield had 6 kills and 2 aces, as the Bulldogs won again, 25-21, 25-17, in a North Suburban Conference crossover.

Stephanie Olson and Maddie Westman added 4 kills apiece for Wauconda (16-2). Kristy Waltenburg registered 9 digs and 2 aces. Michelle Waltenburg also had 9 digs.
