Briefs: Meeting room could be improved
With Lombard planning to make accessibility enhancements to the board room at village hall, an informational meeting about the project is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. Village officials say they would like to remodel the board room in an effort to provide for "greater accessibility enhancements." The village has applied for grant money to help pay for the work. Free trash stickers flood victims
Residents in Lombard who have flood-damaged items can get free refuse stickers through the village until Oct. 13. The stickers may be obtained at village hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave., during regular business hours. After business hours, the stickers can be acquired at the police station, 235 E. Wilson Ave. Items are subject to normal size and weight and must be placed at the curb on the normal collection day, officials said. Bulk materials that are too large to be handled by one person require a special pickup at the resident's cost. For more details about refuse collection, contact Waste Management at (800) 796-9696.
Caregiver seminar
The DuPage County Health Department in conjunction with Metropolitan Family Services DuPage is offering a free seminar to family member caregivers of older adults. The seminar will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 14. The event will be held at the health department building at 111 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton. The seminar will focus on time management and hygience-related issues as well as a variety of problem-solving techniques related to the challenges of family caregiving. Horsing around at fall festival
The Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton is hosting the DuPage County Forest Preserve's annual Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12. The various horses housed at the center will put on shows and demonstrations throughout the day. Rides are offered as well. The festival is the forest preserve's largest special event, drawing roughly 12,000 people each year. The center is located off Naperville Road, just north of the Warrenville Road intersection. Jazz concert slated
The Marshall Vente Trio will be performing at the DuPage County Forest Preserve's Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook. The concert will be held 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the mansion at 1717 W. 31st St. Tickets cost $18 for general admission, but $15 tickets are available to seniors and students. Cabaret-style table seating is available for $25 per person. Guided tours of the building will be available a half-hour before the concert for $5 per person. Call (312) 291-0291 for tickets.
