Sometimes talking is just pointless
How many times do we have to try fruitless negotiations before people learn that in most cases they do not work? For example: Iraq under Saddam, North Vietnam, North Korea, and now Iran. As long as we keep talking, they go on their merry way, without a thought as to how they could help resolve the situation, or make things better all around, even for their own people. Would the Berlin wall be down if we were still talking, would Libya have given up it's weapons? I think not. It was tried with both Hitler and Stalin; when will we learn that you cannot appease a bully? It's too bad that David Ignatius' opinions get such wide coverage.
