Briefs: Carol Stream flood relief
The Carol Stream social service, police and fire departments will have an informational center providing assistance for flood victims at the entrance to Armstrong Park, just west of Illini and Hiawatha drives. The center will be available on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 18-19. Local flood victims from Carol Stream are being directed there for assistance after last weekend's flooding left 50 homes submerged and 400 with some damage. Residents can help by donating cleaning supplies, nonperishable food snacks, pop, water and gift cards to local grocery stores, restaurants or home improvement stores. Donations can be dropped off starting at 8 a.m. both days in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn, 150 S. Gary Ave., in Carol Stream. The hotel will have a 24-hour drop box for donations. Residents can volunteer to help flood victims move items to clear damaged areas. For details, call (630) 665-3325.
