Bush hasn't made our lives better
I read a letter to the editor the other day that stated we as a nation were better off economically under the Bush administration.
I would like to know how this person is achieving this economic wonder.
The value of homes, at least in my area, has fallen dramatically. My stock portfolio has lost 20 percent. People on Social Security have greater increases in income than I have received in the last eight years. As a matter of fact, my actual earned income has fallen, not increased. At least I do not have any large debts.
I worry about my children's future even though both have college degrees.
Unemployment is up, more people are living in poverty and bankruptcies are exploding in volume.
As a nation, we have doubled the national debt and tripled the trade deficit. The limit of the national debt has just been raised for the second time in one year to $10.8 trillion up from $5.6 trillion in 2000.
Debt owed to foreign nations has gone from 19 percent to 60 percent.
We can't fund American education or provide health care for children or veterans but we're spending money on an unnecessary war.
Our image in the world is at, I believe, an all-time low. Our allies are few and our enemies stronger. How can this person say we are better off since this administration been in office?
All of this said, we cannot reflect on the past but look to leadership for the future.
Obama has a view to the future. McCain is entrenched in policies of the past.
McCain economic advisers are a former CEO of HP forced out by her fellow board members. HP has grown since her departure. Sen. Graham says we're just whiners.
Obama meets with Paul Volcker former chairman of the Fed, Warren Buffet the foremost investor of the last three decades and a former Treasury Secretary.
Which actions indicates the leadership you would want?
