Check out Web celeb Pineda this weekend
Journey
You've heard about Arnel Pineda, the 41 year-old Filipino singer discovered by Journey guitarist Neal Schon on YouTube. Now hear his remarkable vocal similarity to Steve Perry for yourself as Pineda, Schon and the band pull out chestnuts and tracks from their recent "Revelations," which is available only at Wal-Mart. For overqualified openers, how about Heart and Cheap Trick?
7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, 19100 S. Ridgeland Ave, Tinley Park. $25-$125. (312) 559-1212 or ticketmaster.com.
Hurtlocker
Hurtlocker play thrash metal, but not that trendy tight-jeans-and-high-tops retro stuff. The southsiders' slamming, Slayerriffic style is more akin to Europeans like Dew-Scented or The Haunted. Original Hurtlocker vocalist Grant Belcher returns for this show, with Kastasyde, Maggot (expletive) and Dysfunctional Mariachi opening.
9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at Ye Olde Town Inn, 18 W. Busse Ave., Mount Prospect. $8. (847) 392-3750 or myspace.com/yotibar.
