During August, the officers issued six citations for failure to yield while turning left and 36 citations for disobeying a traffic signal. Extra traffic enforcement also was conduced along main thoroughfares within the city. Last month, officers issued 155 speed citations, two citations for no insurance and made two misdemeanor arrests. The extra patrols, funded with grant from Illinois Department of Transportation, will continue through this month.

Lombard emergency sewer repairs

Lombard's public works staff began emergency work Tuesday, Sept. 9, on the Main Street sanitary sewer system due to damage from the installation of new ComEd electric poles. The westernmost traffic lane along southbound Main Street will be closed during repairs, which should take about two weeks to complete. The other southbound lane will be diverted across the middle line between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dave Gorman, acting director for the public works department, said Lombard officials learned of the damage after a resident reported a sewer backup after the electric poles were installed. Now crews are pumping down the sewer to protect residents on the west side of Main Street.
