Bounce and Books: 9:30-10 a.m. Mondays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 27, Wauconda Area Library, 801 N. Main St., Wauconda. An early literacy program for children not yet 2-years-old and a caregiver, with nursery rhymes, books, music, and physical activities. Older siblings are welcome, as long as they are not disruptive. Fall Storytimes: The week of Sept. 9 to the week of Oct. 2, Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Sign up in the Children's Department, at www.eapl.org, or by calling (847) 438-3840. Register for only one class per session per child:

• Terrific Twos & Threes: 9:30-9:50 a.m. Tuesdays or 9:30-9:50 a.m. Wednesdays.

• Preschool Storytime: For unaccompanied children ages 3-5, 10:30-11 a.m. Tuesdays or 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesdays.

Checkmates Chess Club: 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 9, 16, 23 and 30, Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Three weeks of instruction are followed by a tournament with prizes. All levels are invited. For kindergartners through fifth-graders. Registration is required and is limited to Ela Library cardholders and students of District 95 schools. Toddlers Messy Mayhem: 10:15-11 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 10 to Oct. 1, Lindenhurst Park District, 2200 E. Grass Lake Road, Lindenhurst. Give toddlers ages 2-3 the freedom of exploration with fun and messy materials. Bring a smock or one a parent's old T-shirt. Corn Maze: Register by Wednesday, Sept. 10. Bus leaves Friday, Oct. 24, Grayslake Park District Rec Center, 240 Commerce Drive, Grayslake. Grades 6-9 can head to Richardson Farm in Spring Grove to wander through 22 acres of mazes. Fee of $20 for Grayslake Park District residents, $25 for nonresidents covers transportation by van and admission to the corn maze. We will meet at the GLPD Rec Center. Harvest Moon Campfire: Register by Friday, Sept. 12. Event is 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, Central Park, on Lake Street between Washington and Central streets, Grayslake. All ages can enjoy campfire stories, making s'mores, singing campfire songs and having fun. Hay wagon will pick up participants at the Grayslake Park District Aquatic Center parking lot, 250 Library Lane, Grayslake. Play Day Open House: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, Alpine Chapel gym, 1180 Heather Drive, Lake Zurich. Kids through preschool age and their moms will get to interact with the "Busy Brain" Traveling Children's Museum. Snacks and beverages provided. This event is free. Child Safety Day: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, Great Lakes Credit Union, 2135 North Route 83, Round Lake Beach. Police officers will fingerprint children and Liberty Mutual will provide child identification kits to take home. Scavenger hunt and craft: Sept. 13-19, Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day with a weeklong scavenger hunt.
