There's no doubt McCain's a hero
Recently, a letter was written into the Fence Post regarding Sen. John McCain's military service to our country during the Vietnam War.
What a slap in the face by to say that calling Sen. McCain a hero cheapens the meaning of the word hero.
McCain is a hero. He took an oath and signed his name on that dotted line to serve our country, which is what he did. To suggest Sen. McCain gave up and waved a white flag is so untrue. All of the pain and torture that he endured as a P.O.W. is a testament to his courage.
You cannot compare the P.O.W. camps or the experiences in those camps during World War II and Vietnam as they were not the same. To suggest Sen. McCain elected to sit out the rest of the war is totally wrong.
I'm sure he loved the daily humiliation and nighttime beatings that he endured, as he cannot raise his hands above his head due to his P.O.W. abuse.
A veteran is a veteran, period. No debate needed on that statement.
I grew up as a kid learning to respect people, especially my elders as well as any of the veterans that I encountered. I hold that to be true today.
Thank you to all of our veterans for their service to our country. They are all heroes in my mind.
