Join Danish artist to make banner of dreams

The West Chicago City Museum, in collaboration with artINcorporators, welcomes artist Gudrun Hasle of Copenhagen, Denmark who will participate in West Chicago's inaugural International Artist in Residence Program from Sept. 1-30. Hasle was selected among 12 emerging artists recommended by the Danish Visual Arts Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Hasle will spend four weeks working on a community project titled "Demonstrating Dreams." She will convert the West Chicago City Museum into her studio and ongoing interactive workshop. Community members are encouraged to bring their aspirations, along with any fabric, clothing, or other materials that represent their dreams. Together, Hasle and visitors will work with the shared materials and dreams to create banners, which will be on display at the City Museum. Hasle's residency will also coincide with artXposium 2008, a 3-day multimedia art experience featuring more than 80 artists.

Besides being available during regular hours, two free workshops in company with the artist have been planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at the museum. A "Gudrun Hasle: Demonstrating Dreams" reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19, concurrently with artXposium 2008. The residency will conclude Sept. 30.

The West Chicago City Museum is at 132 Main St. in West Chicago. The museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For details, call (630) 231-3376.
