McHenry cyclist hit by cop in Ken.
LONDON, Ky. -- Authorities are investigating the death of an Illinois man whose bike was hit by a Kentucky State Police cruiser on its way to a non-emergency call.
State police say 31-year-old Trooper Christopher Roberts was driving south on U.S. 25 when the wreck happened. Police say Roberts was behind a car that stopped in the roadway and that Roberts swerved to the right to avoid hitting it, sideswiping the car and hitting two bicyclists.
Pronounced dead at the scene Sunday night south of London was 26-year-old Chris Powers of Jonesboro, Ill. The second cyclist, 26-year-old Kevin Alshouse of McHenry, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the driver of the car that was stopped, Ramondo Cabrera-Ceron, and a passenger weren't injured.
The newspaper says Roberts is a five-year state police veteran.
