Streamwood man accused of sex assault

A 31-year-old Streamwood man is in Cook County Jail after he was accused of sexually assaulting a teenager over a seven-year period.

Streamwood police arrested Juan Vargas at his home Friday. Family members visited the police department earlier in the day where they reported the ongoing assault.

The 15-year-old victim was treated at the hospital where it was determined that she is pregnant and had terminated a pregnancy in the past, Prosecutor Shandra Leary told the judge Saturday morning.

The victim reported that she was molested nearly every night for years. The abuse started when she was 8, Leary said.

Vargas admitted to police that he molesting the youth, Leary said.

She added that Vargas is not a citizen of the United States and that he was forced to return to Mexico in 1997. She did not have details on why he left or when he returned.

His criminal history includes a 2007 conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol and obstruction of justice.

Judge Donna Phelps Felton on Saturday set his bond at $50,000. The case is scheduled to continue Sept. 26 at Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows.
