Briefs: Fox Lake accident
Police and fire officials responded to a Friday morning accident at Route 12 and Big Hollow Road in Fox Lake. Fox Lake fire officials said one person was treated for a minor injury at the scene and released. Police and fire officials were at the scene for about 30 minutes while the accident was cleaned up. Police are investigating the accident and no citations have been issued.
Truck hits empty school bus
Aptakisic Road in Lincolnshire was closed for about an hour Friday after a landscaping truck ran into an empty school bus at about 7 a.m., Lincolnshire police officials said. The Laidlaw school bus was pulling out of a bus storage area at Industrial Drive and Aptakisic when it was hit in the side by the pick-up truck, police officials said. The bus was enroute to pick up kids for school at the time. The bus is used by the elementary school and high school districts in the area. Officials said the bus driver and a passenger in the pick-up were taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pick up was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Farm Bureau freebie
Lake County Farm Bureau's Ag in the Classroom program once again is available free for schools. Farm Bureau presentations are offered for children in pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. The program is designed to highlight the importance of agriculture for students who may not have a chance to experiece or even see farming near their homes. Lightning baseball team to hold tryouts
The Lake County Lightning 12U travel baseball team will hold tryouts to join its 2009 season from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Carmel Catholic High School baseball field on Route 176, one-half mile west of Butterfield Road in Mundelein. Prospective players must be no older than 12 before May 1, 2009. Players need to bring gloves, bats, spikes, wear appropriate clothing including cap, baseball pants and protective gear and a copy of a birth certificate.
