District 2 board opening:

Candidates are needed to fill a vacancy on the Bensenville Elementary District 2 school board. The vacancy was created when board member Beth Mattson resigned. Candidates may obtain an application and questionnaire by calling (630) 766-5940 or visiting the district's administration center, 210 S. Church Road. The board tentatively plans to consider candidates at an Oct. 1 meeting and the new board member will be appointed Oct. 15.

Holiday weekend patrols:

Several police departments are planning to conduct special patrols during the Labor Day weekend to crack down impaired drivers, officials said. Carol Stream, Lombard and state police all will conduct individual checks. A roadside safety checkpoint also is planned Sept. 5 in Lombard.
