Girl injured when hit by car in Winfield

An 11-year-old Winfield girl was injured Thursday morning after being hit by a car near her home, officials said.

Winfield police and fire officials responded about 7 a.m. to the accident near the intersection of Winfield Scott Drive and Heather Lane.

Authorities say a 25-year-old Winfield man was driving a 2002 Audi north on Winfield Scott Drive when he was unable to stop to avoid hitting the girl.

The girl suffered "incapacitating injuries" during the accident, police said. She was transported to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

The driver was not injured.

Contributory causes for the accident were undetermined and no charges or arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Winfield police and DuPage County sheriff's police are investigating the incident.
