Colleges condone binge drinking
The idea that if college students are allowed to drink at 18, it will reduce binge drinking is an escape clause for the colleges.
Rather than making the students pledge not to drink before 21 and have them pledge to sobriety, the university presidents are condoning the activity.
If they had the students sign a pledge that they won't drink before they are 21 and that they understand they will be dismissed from college if they do, it would have a positive effect on their ability to learn rather than be dummied down by the alcohol.
Leadership is required and not an easy out, and then maybe we will start to lead the world in scholastic achievement.
