Boycott of schools is a sad role model
State Sen. Meeks' idea to boycott schools shows such ignorance for a leader to voice and is a sad role model for all students, but especially our lower-economic students.
I am a teacher who teaches at-risk, low-economic, minority students, and I love my job and teach no different from I did in the higher economic schools where I used to teach.
In fact, I actually give a lot more of myself financially, physically and emotionally.
Sen. Meeks needs to tell the parents that if they decide to follow his direction, they may also be boycotting free breakfast and lunches on school days, free school supplies, free dental screenings, free eye checkups, free eye glasses and free winter coats, to name just a few of the gifts of generosity to our lower-economic students, which are not provided in other schools.
Stand up, Sen. Meeks, instead and tell these students what a good education can do to improve their quality of life and let us teachers do what we love to do and guide these students out of poverty through education.
