Mount Prospect wonders revealed Friday

There's still time to vote for your favorite Mount Prospect "wonder," whether it be the Randhurst Shopping Center, the Mount Prospect Library or police Officer Bill Roscop.

But don't delay. Voting closes at noon Friday.

The Seven Wonders of Mount Prospect will be announced at Bogies Back to School bash, starting at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Bogies Ale House, 303 E. Kensington Road.

Mount Prospect residents have been casting votes at the local library, banks, village hall and designated businesses. They have been choosing from a list of 10 finalists since the contest began earlier this summer.

The votes are being tallied by the amount of donations each finalist receives - all proceeds go to the Mount Prospect Historical Society. Residents drop money into containers for the wonders they support - the winners will be the top seven money-getters.

No one "winner" will be named.

"People have been putting money in the boxes - some loose change or dollar bills," said Cindy Bork, staff member of the Mount Prospect Historical Society.

The 10 finalists were determined earlier this year by residents who nominated "wonders" on paper ballots around the village.

From there, the historical society picked the top 10 based on the number of votes.

The 10 finalists are:

• Central School

• The columns in the pond at Huntington Commons

• Keefer's Pharmacy

• Mount Prospect Historical Society campus

• Mount Prospect Public Library

• Native American street names - Hiawatha, We-Go, Hi-Lusi

• Officer Bill Roscop

• Randhurst Shopping Center

• St. John Lutheran Church

• S-curve on Route 83

If you want to vote, go to: Mount Prospect Public Library, 10 S. Emerson St.; Midwest Bank, 50 N. Main St.; MB Financial, 15 E. Prospect Ave.; Busse Car Wash, 13 E. Prospect Ave.; and the Dietrich Friedrichs Museum, 101 S. Maple St.
