Schaumburg police say two robberies may be by same man
Schaumburg police believe the armed robbery of a convenience store Aug. 12 is related to a similar incident on Aug. 9.
The Aug. 12 robbery occurred at about 4:15 a.m. on the 100 block of South Meacham Road.
A 50-year-old woman working at the store was cleaning a coffee pot in the stockroom when a man came in. He pointed a gun at her and demanded money.
The gunman escorted the clerk to the cash register, handed her a plastic bag and ordered her to put the money in. He filled a second bag with four cartons of cigarettes before taking the woman back to the stockroom and telling her to stay there.
The total value of the theft was estimated at $385.
At 9 a.m. Aug. 9, a lone offender similarly entered a small store on the 2300 block of Bode Road, displayed a handgun and demanded money. In this case, he fled with about $100 in cash and cigarettes.
Police Sgt. John Nebl said investigators got a similar description of the robber in both cases. The offender is described as a 20 to 25-year-old man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.
In the Aug. 9 incident, he was seen driving away in a newer model, medium black car, possibly a Chrysler, with unknown number Illinois license plates.
Anyone with information or who may recognize the suspect is asked to call the Schaumburg Police Department's Criminal Investigations Bureau at (847) 882-3534.
