Briefs: 2 charged in burglaries
Two 14-year-olds have been charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and curfew violations after being arrested by Naperville police at 4:09 a.m. Sunday, authorities said Monday. Police said a resident alerted them to suspicious activity in the 1200 block of Basswood Drive. Police said they apprehended the boys as they tried to flee. The suspects, both from Naperville, were released to the custody of a parent. Police said they believe the youths may have committed at least two other vehicle burglaries Sunday and may be responsible for numerous others throughout the summer. A wide assortment of property has been recovered.
Burglary suspect arraigned
A 22-year-old man pleaded innocent Monday to allegations he broke into the library July 26 at North Central College in Naperville and made off with expensive computer equipment. Joel A. Williams, 130 S. Main St., Naperville, is charged with burglary, theft and criminal damage to property. Authorities said he stole the electronics after breaking a window. Police arrested Williams after they said officers found the stolen computer equipment in his possession while investigating a domestic disturbance in his home the next morning.
Alderman seeks re-election
Wood Dale Fourth Ward Alderman Eugene Wesley will seek a second, four-year term on April 7. During his current term, Wesley said he aimed to prevent homes from being taken for the proposed overpass at Irving Park and Wood Dale roads. He also said he has been active in helping residents obtain soundproofing to protect from O'Hare Airport noise. Wesley serves as chairman of Wood Dale's finance committee.
Police hunt burglars
Naperville police are investigating a pair of home burglaries on Burning Tree Lane, authorities said Monday. Police said they responded at 9:48 p.m. Saturday to a house in the 800 block of Burning Tree where a burglar pried open a door between 6:30 and 9:45 p.m. Once inside, the intruder ransacked the home and took silverware and jewelry valued at more than $4,000. During the investigation, police said they found a house on the 700 block of Burning Tree had been burglarized in similar fashion. It's not known what was taken in that incident. Murder trial set to begin
Jury selection is scheduled to begin today in the murder trial of a teenager accused of gunning down a man walking his dog last Dec. 19 in Glendale Heights during a botched robbery. Isaias Beltran, 19, is charged with first-degree murder. Corey Dale Krueger, a 35-year-old father of two, died after being shot at close range near his home before leaving for his shift as a sanitation worker in Joliet. DuPage Circuit Judge George Bakalis is presiding over the trial. Beltran has pleaded innocent.
York Theatre GM indicted
The 36-year-old former general manager of York Theatre in Elmhurst is facing felony theft charges on suspicion he stole more than $100,000 while working for the corporation. Everado Mendoza, 25931 Woodrush Ways, Channahon, is accused of stealing the money between Dec. 31, 2004, and Feb. 7, when the alleged theft scheme was uncovered. A DuPage County grand jury indicted him last week.
Man arraigned for thefts
A 42-year-old Chicago man pleaded innocent Monday to allegations he stole nearly $5,000 worth of manhole bases and covers July 28 in Elmhurst to sell for scrap metal. Alfonso M. Ayora, 1524 W. Chicago Ave., is charged with felony theft. He was arraigned before DuPage Circuit Judge John Kinsella.
