U.S. condemnation of Russia is ironic

Does anyone else appreciate the absolute irony of Bush, Cheney and Rice condemning the Russia incursion into Georgia?

It's more than a little ironic that Bush complains about countries making up pretexts to invade a smaller country when our resident trio hold the gold medal of invasions by fiction.

If our so-called Department of Homeland Security were effective at all, there would have been a public airing of the incursion before it happened. Just maybe the whole thing could have been short circuited before people died.

So we are faced with a choice for evaluating our intelligence services:

A. They missed the massing of Russian troops on the border, in which case their competence hasn't improved much since 9/11.

Or B. They did know about it and chose not to air the pending event, in which case they are just venal.

Since Rice is supposed to be an expert on Russia, I'm leaning toward venal.

Bush and Cheney are, of course, both venal and incompetent.
