Temple B'nai Israel will host its annual picnic and open house for members and prospective members from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the temple, 400 N. Edgelawn Drive, Aurora.

There will be food, games and entertainment for all ages.

Admission is free. All are encouraged to socialize and learn more about the temple and religious school.

• Congregation Kneseth Israel will host its annual picnic and new member open house from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the temple, 330 Division St., Elgin. The event includes food, games and entertainment for all ages at no cost to prospective members. Families will be able to register for religious school classes. Call (847) 741-54656.

Catholic

St. Patrick Church will hold its 15th annual Paddyfest Aug. 23-24 on the grounds of the church, 6N491 Crane Road, St. Charles. The celebration will kick off after the 4 p.m. Mass Aug. 23 with a pork chop dinner, entertainment, dancing and beverages. Activities scheduled from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Aug. 24 for the church picnic include a car show, food, crafts, a bake sale, farmers market, entertainment and free children's games. The fee to register a car for the show is $10 before Aug. 10 and $15 after. Call (630) 587-3000.

Lutheran

Immanuel Lutheran Church will honor its two assistant pastors Aug. 24. A reception will be held after the 8, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. services in Fellowship Hall, 950 Hart Road, Batavia.

The Rev. William Beckmann and the Rev. Donald Moll have each contributed 50 years of service to the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, through education and pastoral ministries.

Unity

Fox Valley Unity Church, 230 Webster St. in Batavia, is offering the class "Bible Interpretation: Acts to Revelations" from noon to 2 p.m. or from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Aug. 20 through Sept. 24.

The course is designed to give students the experience of Bible interpretation. Students will use the skills they learned in the earlier Bible interpretation class. Selected stories will be investigated and interpreted.

"The Revealing Word" and "The Metaphysical Bible Dictionary" by Charles Fillmore will be used in the class.

Class fee will be on a love offering basis. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Congregational

The Congregational Church of Batavia will be offering a two-year confirmation program for seventh and eighth grade students for 24 weeks from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays starting Oct. 8. The church is at 21 S. Batavia Ave.

Students will be learning the basics about God, Christ, the church, the Christian faith and what it means to be a follower of Christ in a relationship-focused setting. We are open to all.

Parent/student informational meetings will be held at the church at noon Aug. 24 and Sept. 7.

Unity

Fox Valley Unity Church in Batavia will be helping in the kitchen at Hesed House Aug. 25 and Aug. 29. Hesed House is at 659 S. River St. in Aurora.

Volunteers are needed to serve from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. No experience is necessary.

Hesed House is a not-for-profit coalition of religious ministries serving the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in the Fox Valley area.
