Schaumburg police charge two in July beating
Schaumburg police have charged a man and woman in the beating of two Hoffman Estates men outside an apartment complex on July 27.
Marek Mikolajczyk, 22, of 230 Flagstaff Lane in Hoffman Estates, and Krystal Marie Tate, 20, of 122 Mullingar Court in Schaumburg, were both charged with battery and criminal damage to property.
Police said the two victims, aged 20 and 19, were among a group of four or five friends walking to their car from an apartment on the 100 block of Mullingar Court at about 1:35 a.m. July 27.
They encountered a group of people they estimated to number about 15 sitting on the porch and stairs of the apartment building.
"Words were exchanged between the two groups, and a fight ensued between the two groups," police Sgt. John Nebl said.
The investigation determined that the people sitting on the steps were the aggressors in the fight, including the two who were charged, Nebl added.
One victim suffered a broken jaw, sprained ankle and a cut on his scalp. The other lost four teeth from his front lower jaw.
As the victims and their friends got to their car to get away, the driver's side mirror and taillight were reportedly broken as they drove off. When police got to the scene, there was no one there, Nebl said.
The two injured victims were treated at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.
Nebl said additional charges could be filed against another person involved.
"We were unable to charge other people because we were unable to get positive identifications from the victims in a lineup," Nebl said. "There's still one more person we believe was involved that we're looking for."
Mikolajczyk's and Tate's next court date is Sept. 12.
