Pelosi's illogical view of drilling for oil

The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has shown a dismaying lack of logic.

She and other Democrats do not want to start drilling for oil in the outer continental shelf (OCS) because "It will take ten years before any oil is in our refineries."

With that logic we would never send our six-year-old children to first grade because "they won't graduate for 12 years."

With this logic no one need start saving for retirement because "I won't retire for 20 years."

With that logic we would never have planted the apple trees in our backyard which are now giving us our first fruit. Why plant? There will be no fruit for eight years.

Why go to college? "I will be four years older when I get my degree?"

In 1973 the oil cartel cut off our oil supply and we all remember waiting and grumbling in long gas lines. Finally Congress allowed drilling in the Prudhoe Bay area and the construction of the Alaska pipeline. This Herculean effort took eight years but we finally got some of our own oil. The dire predictions of the environmentalists that the caribou herd would never pass under the pipeline to their calving grounds proved to be totally incorrect. The caribou love the warmth of the pipeline and the caribou herd has increased from 3,000 to 30,000.

The Chinese have a wise saying "The journey of one- thousand miles, starts with the first step."

We need to start drilling, building wind turbines, allowing high tension lines from these wind turbines to cities, do research in alternate energy, nuclear power generation and anything else that looks promising.
