Boy flown to hospital with head injury

An 8-year-old boy complaining of head trauma was taken from Algonquin via helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge this afternoon, officials said.

The boy had been a patient at Provena St. Joseph Hospital Medcare, an off-site emergency room in Lake in the Hills.

Authorities there summoned the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District to drive the boy to a waiting helicopter, which landed in Algonquin at 12:28 p.m., Batallion Chief Fred Schau said.

"All we know is he had a head injury," Schau said.

Jacobs High School's baseball fields served as the helicopter's landing strip, said Allison Smith, communications director for Community Unit District 300.

A Provena emergency room technician, citing medical privacy laws, declined to say what caused the boy's ailment.

His condition was not known Monday afternoon.
