Man accused of intentionally running down boy

A Bellwood man is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond on charges he deliberately ran down an 11-year-old boy with his car.

Twenty-eight-year-old Tiyon Tyson is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery of a child and aggravated battery after the incident Sunday in a parking lot in Woodridge.

Prosecutors say the child, who remains hospitalized in serious condition, suffered road burns over 90 percent of his body, a broken rib and left arm and ear damage.

Tyson and his former girlfriend, accompanied by the victim, were quarreling in a bowling alley's parking lot shortly before the incident. Prosecutors say when the woman began to walk away from the situation, Tyson got into his car and backed into the woman and child.

The woman suffered a cracked vertebra and head injuries and was treated at a hospital and released.
