Briefs: District 300 hires new director

Community Unit District 300 has named Valorie Moore the new director of curriculum and professional development. Moore will supervise a number of principals, help principals implement curriculum and facilitate the use of technology in the classroom, among other duties. Moore replaces Kathi Robinson, who left the district this summer. Moore will earn $109,986 and report to Tom Hay, District 300's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Moore earned her doctorate in education from Roosevelt University in Chicago. She oversaw school operations in Evanston School District 65 before coming to District 300.

Eagles hold baseball tryouts

Lake in the Hills Eagles Travel Baseball Tryouts for the 2009 season for 12U will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Park Field 2 in Lake in the Hills.

ECC student group lauded

Elgin Community College's Organization of Latin American Students recently won the Lideres Summit Award for Achievement at the National Council of La Raza conference in San Diego. The award is given each year to the group that has mad a significant impact on their campus. This is the third year OLAS has won the award.
