Briefs: Commissioner honored today

The Vernon Hills Park District will rename Marimac Park, at Route 45 and Deerpath Drive, in honor of former park commissioner Kelli Garvanian today at a 10:30 a.m. ceremony. Fish virus:

Boaters and anglers are being urged to follow emergency procedures after tests confirmed the presence of fish-killing Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia in the Lake Michigan waters off of Lake County. The Lake County Health Department on Thursday said regulations are meant to slow the spread of the virus into other waters. They include: eliminating natural water from all equipment when leaving a body of water; emptying and draining all bait, buckets, bilges, etc., or any other compartment capable of holding water; and not releasing unused live bait or fish caught from other waters into Lake Michigan. The virus is not a threat to human health. Visit http://dnr.state.il.us for details.
