History walk at Fabyan estate

Hear the Fabyan stories on a guided history walk from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 10.

There's something for everyone as a trained guide uses historic photographs and oral histories to recreate the sights and sounds of Riverbank Estates, the home of George and Nelle Fabyan from 1905 to 1939. George Fabyan, a friend of Marshall Field, covered his estate with exotic features from around the world, (e.g. a Japanese garden, a Dutch windmill, Egyptian sculptures, and a Greco-Roman swimming pool), participated in many scientific experiments, and entertained a variety of intriguing and prestigious guests.

The estate is located in the Fabyan Forest Preserve, off Route 31 north of Fabyan Parkway in Geneva. A donation of $3 is requested. Registration is not necessary. Meet in the circle driveway north of the home at 1 p.m. Rain cancels the event. For information call (630) 208-0954. Participants may also tour the villa, the Fabyan home remodeled by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1907, for a separate fee. The history walks continue on Sept. 14 and Oct. 12.
