Famed fireworks Saturday at annual LakemoorFest
LakemoorFest gets another chance this weekend to live up to its reputation for a bang-up fireworks show that attracts visitors from across the region.
Action kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday at Morrison Park on Lilly Lake. The site is off Route 120 between Darrell and Lily Lake roads.
Staples each day include a beer garden, food vendors, carnival rides and live music.
LakemoorFest organizer Terry Gaylord said 5,000 to 8,000 visitors are expected Saturday night, when the fireworks show is scheduled. The pyrotechnics are to begin at 9:30 p.m.
"People plan their family reunions around our fireworks," Gaylord said.
Gaylord said fireworks aficionados come from Chicago and Wisconsin to attend the LakemoorFest show.
To control the crowds, Route 120 will be closed from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday from Darrell to Lily Lake roads.
Gaylord said patrons are advised to arrive well before 8:30 p.m. Saturday and to take advantage of shuttle buses available near the festival. Stops include Sheridan Road and Route 120, Wagon Trail Road and Darrell, and Venice Road at Lotus Drive.
LakemoorFest will run from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
One of Saturday's early highlights is a fishing derby at 9 a.m. Other activities that day include a martial arts demonstration at noon, adult horseshoes at 1 p.m. and an adult beanbag toss at 2 p.m.
An arts and crafts show is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Gaylord said 9:30 p.m. Sunday has been established as a rain date for the fireworks.
