Schaumburg house fire doused by buckets, hose after lightning strike

A fire at a Schaumburg house struck by lightning Monday night was mostly extinguished by the homeowner before firefighters arrived.

Schaumburg firefighters received the call to the residence on the 1100 block of Bourne Lane at 7:51 p.m. Monday, Deputy Fire Chief William Spencer said.

When crews arrived, they found that the homeowner had been able to put out most of the fire using a hose and buckets of water.

Still, firefighters did an extensive search of the house, where they found some areas still smoldering and extinguished them, Spencer said.

The house remained habitable and firefighters were able to leave the scene within an hour, he said.
