Fall Brochure: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Fall Brochure will soon be available. Resident registration begins Aug. 7. Nonresident registration begins Aug. 21.

Party in the Park: Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8 in the gazebo behind Village Hall for a free afternoon of entertainment. Little Nashville is an award-winning, family-focused musical extravaganza. This live concert will engaged children with a high-energy stage show that combines music with education. Children will learn about the world around them while enjoying today's "hot" Country music. Although the messages are geared toward kids, adults will love the music too. This is great family fun, and it's free

Concert in the Park: Pack a picnic lunch and bring the whole family to the Village Hall Amphitheater on at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, for a free concert. The Flat Cats is a blend of vintage and modern music that includes the hottest swinging jazz and blues, standards, contemporary classics, and toe-tapping western swing guaranteed to entertain whether you decide to show off your moves on the dance floor or just sit back, relax, and listen. The Flat Cats is comprised of local musicians with years of performing, arranging, and composing experience with the classic appeal of top-quality musicianship, style, and spirit.

For youth

Play School Academy: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is still accepting registration for fall enrollment into the preschool program. New this fall are the 2-1/2 to 3-1/2-year-old classes. The Play School Academy is a quality, affordable, fun, and educational program to get your little "fishes" ready to swim in the big pond of elementary school.

The academy promotes social, physical and intellectual growth through a variety of individual and group activities. With our low student to teacher ratio of 12:2, your child is ensured ample, individual attention. There are classes available for children 2.5 to 5 years of age. We follow the 158 school district calendar, and all classes take place at the Indian Trail Beach House, 228 Indian Trail. Environmental Explorers Nature Camp: Kids in first through sixth grades can discover the wonders of nature through hands-on science, games, and art activities with the Lake in the Hills Environmental Explorers Nature Camp. Join instructor April Anderson for this fun-filled, four-day camp from 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 11-14 at various locations and learn about plants and trees, birds and bugs, mammals, amphibians and more. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes that can get a little wet, insect repellent, and sunscreen. Remember to bring a water bottle and snack daily. Resident rate is $50; nonresident rate is $60.

For seniors

Senior Afternoon Bingo: For ages 55-plus. The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department hosts afternoon BINGO for area seniors from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15 in the Village Hall multipurpose room. The afternoon includes a light snack, hot coffee, and two hours of Bingo fun Preregistration is required. Resident rate is $2; nonresident rate is $3.
