Des Plaines
• A stop sign at Greenview and Second avenues was stolen off its post July 28 or 29.
• Roman Ortega, 23, 1976 S. Chestnut, Des Plaines, was arrested around 6 a.m. July 28 and charged with felony residential burglary after police say he broke into an apartment on the 2000 block of Pine Street through a living room window and stole a purse and wallet, electronics, jewelry and cash. Two people were asleep in the apartment at the time. Police said an officer saw Ortega holding a black box and white plastic bag in a gangway on the 1300 block of East Howard Avenue; he ran down the gangway when the officer approached him, dropping the bag and losing the DVD player when it fell out of the box as he fled. Police caught him as he tried to enter his home through a basement window; everything was recovered except a subwoofer, reports said. His Skokie court date was set for Aug. 5.
• A 14-year-old boy broke into a home on the 400 block of Pleasant Lane and took three cars for joy rides July 14-19. Police say the victims were out of the country when the boy went into their garage and found house keys - and once inside the house found keys to a 2007 Acura TL, 2004 Honda Pilot and a Honda Civic. When he was done driving them, police say, the front passenger's-side fenders were dented on the Acura and Pilot, the Acura would not start, the key to the Pilot was missing and the Honda Civic was involved in an accident. A damage estimate was not available.
Mount Prospect
• Rodolfo Estrada-Rivera, 25, 1707 Mansard Lane, Apt. 107, Mount Prospect, was arrested around 8:10 p.m. July 27 outside his apartment building and charged with possession of marijuana. His court date is Sept. 4.
• Ashley N. Stevenson, 19, 570 Seegers Road, Des Plaines, was arrested around 7:45 p.m. July 24 at a soccer field on the 1500 block of South Linneman Road and charged with possession of marijuana. Her court date is Aug. 22.
• A home on the 100 block of North Lancaster Street was ransacked and money stolen from a purse between 6 and 10:15 p.m. July 26. There was no sign of forced entry and the loss was estimated at $300.
Prospect Heights
• An ATV that was being used on the roof of MacArthur Junior High School, 700 Schoenbeck Road, to move roofing materials around was vandalized July 25-28. The ATV belongs to Waukegan Roofing; a damage estimate was not available.
• A Canadian National Railroad control shed on the south side of Camp McDonald Road west of Wolf Road was vandalized with spray paint July 26. A damage estimate was not available.
• A 2008 Chevrolet Impala in a restaurant lot on the 600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue was vandalized between 1:15 and 1:45 a.m. July 26. A damage estimate was not available.
• A yellow 2001 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from a residential lot on the 0-100 block of East Old Willow Road between 9:30 p.m. July 24 and 10:40 a.m. July 25. A value estimate was not available.
• An unlocked boys blue BMX bike worth about $180 was stolen from outside a store on the 0-100 block of North Elmhurst Road around 6:10 p.m. July 25.
