ECC sets small business class:

Elgin Community College, the Small Business Administration and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will host a Starting Your Business in Illinois workshop at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12. During the workshop, participants can learn about the importance of creating feasibility studies and business plans, about financing options and where to get additional assistance. The workshop will be held in room 103 of the Fox Valley University and Business Center on ECC's main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive., Elgin. Cost is $25 per person. Call (847) 214-7488.

Sheriff roadside safety check:

Motorists traveling Route 59 in the West Chicago area Friday might be stopped as part of a roadside safety check. Motorists will be directed to a checkpoint area and will be asked to provide their driver's license and proof of insurance. Officers with the DuPage County sheriff's office and West Chicago police are conducting the operation in search of impaired motorists and other traffic violators.

Campton cruise nights:

Weekly "cruise nights" featuring hot rods and vintage vehicles are planned through September in Campton Hills. The events take place from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday at Campton Crossings shopping center along Route 64. Cruise nights also include '50s and '60s music and trophies. Call (630) 584-5700.

United Way re-elects president:

The United Way of Central Kane County re-elected Janet English president at its June board meeting, the organization recently announced. English took over in 2007 as president and has been on the board of directors for four years. English is a former board member for St. Charles School District 303.
