Gas line break in Lisle stops trains

A broken gas line forced authorities to stop train traffic for several hours Thursday along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks through downtown Lisle.

A construction crew working near Main Street and Burlington Avenue accidentally ruptured the line, authorities said.

Nicor crews were able to make the necessary repairs, and train traffic resumed around 1:45 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The temporary rail ban included Metra trains traveling between Chicago and Aurora. Motorists and pedestrians also were rerouted until the gas line was fixed, authorities said.
