Father, 11-year-old son hurt in motorcycle crash

An 11-year-old boy was flown to the hospital Wednesday after the motorcycle he and his father were riding was hit by a car in McHenry, police said.

The accident was reported at 7:44 p.m. at Pearl Street and Riverside Drive. Police Sgt. Robert Lumber said the father was driving east on Pearl Street when a motorist going north on Riverside Drive ran a stop sign and hit the motorcycle. Lumber said the car then crashed into a third vehicle.

The boy was flown by helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where his condition was unknown late Wednesday. The boy's father was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening at a McHenry hospital, police said.

The names of those involved were not immediately available. Lumber said the driver at fault was cited for disobeying the stop sign, and the driver of the third vehicle was ticketed for having no insurance.

Police said neither the boy nor his father was wearing a helmet.

"It is also suspected at this time that the driver of the motorcycle did not have a proper license classification," Lumber said. "Charges are pending at this time."
