Fire damages Wheaton house

A basement fire left a Wheaton house uninhabitable Tuesday.

Wheaton fire officials were called to 925 N. Webster around 9:38 a.m. for the report of a structure fire, officials said. Firefighters found smoke exiting the building and a fire in the basement; they brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes, officials said. The house was occupied at the time of the fire, but no one was injured.

Fire officials are investigating. A damage estimate was not immediately available. Wheaton firefighters were assisted on the scene by Wheaton police and neighboring fire departments, officials said.
