Fox Lake child burned in June fire dies

An investigation continues into the death of a 2-year-old Fox Lake boy who died from injuries sustained during a house fire in June.

Preston Cooper died Wednesday at Loyola University Medical Center from the injuries he sustained in the June 11 fire at his home at 29 York St.

The boy had been hospitalized since the blaze, which caused burns to more than 50 percent of his body.

Department of Children and Family Services officials said they are investigating allegations of neglect stemming from the fire. DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe said there has been no prior contact with the family, which has no other children.

Fox Lake police officials refused to comment on the situation because of the open investigation surrounding the fire and the ongoing investigation by DCFS.
