Forest preserve auction
DuPage County Forest Preserve officials will auction off excess equipment, found property and confiscated items on Saturday at the Fleet Services Complex at the Churchill Woods Forest Preserve, 881 W. St. Charles Road, Lombard. The auction will begin at 8:30 a.m., but doors will open for viewing at 7 a.m. More than 300 items will be up for auction. Shred old documents free
DuPage County is offering residents two opportunities to shred their old personal documents free of charge. The first shredding is from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 23 at Addison village hall, 1 Friendship Plaza. The second event is from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 13 in Villa Park at the north Metra parking lot, 349 N. Ardmore Ave. There is a limit of three small bags or three small boxes per vehicle. For details, call (630) 792-2112.
Vehicle sticker fines going up
Carol Stream will begin issuing $100 fines on Friday to motorists who live in the village and don't display a properly mounted vehicle sticker. Police will issue $20 fines for improperly mounted stickers until Friday.
Veteran interviews Tuesday
Veterans who want to share their stories are invited to do so from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Judd Kendall VFW, 908 W. Jackson Ave., Naperville. The project's purpose is to reveal veterans' experiences for Naperville Unit District 203 and Indian Prairie Unit District 204. Stories will be posted at www.freedomheroesofnaperville.org.
Y offers preschool classes
The Kroehler Family YMCA, 34 S. Washington St., Naperville, is accepting registration for preschool classes in early September. Tot Time for 21/2- to 3-year-olds meets 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $95 for YMCA members and $143 for others. Fabulous Fours for 31/2- to 4-year-olds is offered from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The fee is $135 for members and $203 for others. Prekindergarten class for kids entering kindergarten in fall 2009 meets 12:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday. The cost is $150 for members, $225 for others.
