Neither Bears QB lights it up

Saturday night under the lights at ONU's Ward Field it was Kyle Orton's day to work with the No. 1 offense.

But Rex Grossman had the slightly more impressive evening, although neither quarterback lit it up.

In the two-minute drill, the last segment, Grossman fired a strike to rookie Earl Bennett in a deep seam of the defense.

Despite fumbling a snap late in the drive, Grossman quickly got the second team into position for a 34-yard Robbie Gould field goal. Minutes earlier, Orton completed just 2 of 6 passes in his two-minute drill, but it still ended with Gould's 43-yard field goal.

In his second 7-on-7 session, Orton went 5-for-5, connecting with five different receivers.

"I'm just trying to get better every day," Orton said. "We're installing a bunch of stuff, and it's just chopping wood every day, going through a lot of plays and trying to get as many wrinkles out as we can."

Second-year wide receiver Mike Hass had the catch of the night, leaping to snare a deep sideline bullet from Grossman and coming down with both feet barely in bounds.
