Rough day for Orton; Grossman so-so

Rex Grossman may have taken an early lead Friday afternoon in the Bears' quarterback contest - not because he played especially well while working with the first team, but because Kyle Orton probably took a step back.

Orton was picked off twice, once by second-team cornerback Trumaine McBride and later by backup safety Kevin Payne. Orton also dropped an exchange from center. Grossman, who was not intercepted, got off to a slow start in seven-on-seven work, missing on his first 3 passes, including a pair of overthrows to Rashied Davis. But in his next seven-on-seven session, Grossman completed 6 straight. Although 4 were short, high percentage passes, he picked up large chunks of yardage on a deep sideline route to Mike Hass and then a bullet over the middle to Davis.

After his second interception, Orton finished on a high note, finding rookie tight end Kellen Davis, who made a nice catch deep over the middle, connecting with Mark Bradley on a crossing route and later hitting running back Garrett Wolfe in a seam down the field.
