Streamwood celebrates summer in style

This year's Streamwood Summer Celebration, slated for Friday through Sunday and organized by the Streamwood Chamber of Commerce, Park District and village features something for everyone.

With a theme of "Great American Heroes," the festival will take place at Hoosier Grove Park, 700 W. Irving Park Road, Streamwood.

The event has pulled in crowds of up to 5,000 on Friday and Saturday evenings, said coordinator Gary O'Rourke.

The celebration will feature a parade, carnival, craft show, activities for the children, games, food/beer tent, a Sunday morning golf outing and entertainment each day on both the children's stage as well as the main stage.

Main stage entertainers include 7th Heaven, White Saddle Band, Modern Day Romeos, Vinyl Highway, Parrothead Express and AARA. Live Band Karaoke, which provides the band while participants provide the lead vocals and stage presence, will take place 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The children's tent will offer sand art, candle art, sandy candy and spin art creations. Prices for crafts range from $1 to $3, although open easels are available for kids throughout the event for no charge.

On Sunday, there will be a golf outing at Streamwood Oaks. Registration and a breakfast buffet begins at 6:30 a.m., with registration ending at 7 a.m. and breakfast ending at 7:30 a.m. for the shotgun start. Cost is $27 and includes breakfast, carts cost extra. Golfers can still sign up but there are only a few spots left for groups of four, so contact Streamwood Oaks to reserve a spot. Call (630) 483-1881.

Barbara Lund, a park district fest coordinator, says about 45 vendors will be on hand for the business expo, which will be open each day of the fest. Most of the vendors are from the Streamwood area.

The parade, always a fun-filled event traveling down Streamwood Boulevard with hundreds of pounds of candy and other goodies to be passed out to those watching, steps off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Marching in the parade will be the Streamwood police and fire departments, Mayor Billie Roth and the trustees, the Ladina Clowns, the Jessie White Tumbling Team, the Madina Black Horse Troop, the Limited Edition Big Band, the West Suburban Home School Band, the Madina Flying Carpets and about 92 other entries, Lund said.
