Free Bach concert in Aurora
On July 25, the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present a free concert called "Bach and Beyond at the Abbey" at the Marmion Abbey in Aurora
A number of organists will play an organ piece by Bach or another composer. Interspersed between the organ pieces are two congregational hymns, and a choir anthem sung by the AGO Festival Choir. This year's anthem is "O For the Wings of a Dove" by Felix Mendelssohn.
The program starts at 7:30 p.m. July 25 at the Marmion Abbey, 850 E. Butterfield Road in Aurora. It is about one mile west of Kirk Road and on the north side if Butterfield Road. Drive about a half mile past (west) the main entrance and you will find the entrance to the abbey.
This year, flute player Cathy Gruenwald will be playing a piece with Karl Bruhn, an arrangement of an aria from Bach's cantata no. 208, "Sheep May Safely Graze."
If you are free, come on out and enjoy a lovely concert. There is no admission charge, but there is a "door offering" to benefit the AGO Young Organists' Fund. Next summer, the local AGO chapter again will having a weeklong summer camp for young organists called a "Pipe Organ Encounter."
