Let's start school with a contract
With the turning over of our calendar to the month of August, our community, filled with children, looks forward to the start of a new school year. This is our time to purchase notebooks, pencils, sneakers for PE, and wait with anticipation for the class lists to be posted. The first day of school in District 158 is Aug. 25, and we hope it can arrive without disruption.
There is no doubt in our minds that this community values teachers. We believe that the board of education also values teachers. The process of negotiations can be a tricky path to undertake, but one that eventually will reach a conclusion.
The District 158 teachers want to be treated professionally and the board of education wants to be fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars. Both are noble and attainable goals. With the start of school quickly approaching, we respectfully request that an equitable conclusion be reached, so that a positive community of learning and high achievement can be maintained for all our students. Our children deserve nothing less than the very best education that our community can collectively provide.
