Splish, Splash, 5K Dash: Due to some unfavorable weather and water conditions, the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department was unable to host their annual Splish, Splash, 5K Dash on June 14. The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2. Registration is still accepted through www.signmeup.com ($25 per person).

Fall Brochure: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Fall Brochure will soon be available. Resident registration begins Aug. 7. Nonresident registration begins Aug. 21.

Summer Sunset 5K Run/Walk: Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department at Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Road, for the annual Summer Sunset 5K Run/Walk at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29. This 5K run/2 mile walk course will be flat and fast with no need to worry about hills. The evening air is sure to make for an enjoyable race. Come for the race and stay for the entertainment that follows at the Sunset Festival. Register before Aug. 24 and receive the discounted rate of $23 per person. Race-day registration also is available from 5:15 to 6:45 a.m. for $28 per person. Registration now accepted thru www.lith.org or at the Parks & Recreation Department inside the Village Hall.

Playschool Academy: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is still accepting registration for fall enrollment into the preschool program. New this fall is our 2.5 to 3.5 year old classes. The Playschool Academy is a quality, affordable, fun, and educational program to get your little "fishes" ready to swim in the big pond of elementary school.

The academy promotes social, physical and intellectual growth through a variety of individual and group activities. With our low student to teacher ratio of 12:2, your child is ensured ample, individual attention. There are classes available for children 2.5 to 5 years of age. We follow the 158 school district calendar, and all classes take place at the Indian Trail Beach House, 228 Indian Trail. Barefoot Hawaiians Beach Show: Experience the islands without leave the Village of Lake in the Hills. The Barefoot Hawaiians, an authentic Polynesian-style performing troupe, provides the feeling and festiveness of the islands with their mix of dynamic dances, music, and vibrant costumes. Join the Parks & Recreation Department of Lake in the Hills for this FREE one-of-a-kind show from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 at the Indian Trail Beach, 228 Indian Trail.

Concerts in the Park: Pack a picnic lunch and bring the whole family to the Village Hall Amphitheater on at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, for a free concert. Enjoy the musical talents of Final Say, comprised of four of Chicago's top musicians. Whether you are into alternative, classic rock, soul, Motown, New Wave, Big hair Rock, or R&B, Final Say delivers. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved inside the Village Hall.

Magical Night at the Beach: At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29 bring a picnic basket and your swimsuits and join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department for a free Magical Night at Indian Trail Beach. Your family will be treated to a Magic Show performed by Magic Matt while enjoying the atmosphere of the beach. In the event of rain, the show will be held at the Village Hall.

For youth

Mad Science - Bugs-n-Surf: Like insects? You'll love this workshop all about the crawly critters with real preserved specimens to examine as well as what creatures call the ocean home! Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department from 10 to 11:30 a.on Thursday, July 24 in the Village Hall Community Room. Resident rate is $23, nonresident rate is $27.

Party in the Park: Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25 in the gazebo behind Village Hall for a free afternoon of entertainment. The Pink Panthers Champion Double Dutch team will be here performing. Bring your jump rope and get ready for an amazing recreational experience that promotes physical fitness and sportsmanship.

For adults

Adult CPR with AED: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department, along with EFR Certified instructor Jacob Johnson, is providing area adults the opportunity to learn CPR with AED. This course focuses on primary care through a combination of knowledge development, skill development and scenario practice. Skills taught are scene assessment, barrier use, adult CPR, obstructed airway management, shock management, and AED orientation. Certification earned is good for two years. Manual is included in the cost of the class. Class is held in the Village Hall multipurpose room from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, July 24. Resident fee is $54, nonresident fee is $64.
