Briefs: Concerts in the park
Free concerts are planned in St. Charles through Aug. 14 for the park district's annual Concerts in the Park series. The concerts start at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Park, along West Main Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. Scheduled to perform are: The Class of '68 Thursday; April's Reign, July 31; the U.S. Air Force Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble, Aug. 7; and Howard and the White Boys, Aug. 14. Call (630) 513-6200.
Cigar-tasting planned
A cigar-tasting event is planned for 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Bull & Bear Tobacco Shop, 1 W. Illinois St., St. Charles. The gathering is to feature cigar maker Alec Bradley and will include samples of gourmet rum, beer, wine, coffee and hors d'oeuvres. Admission is $20. For reservations, call (630) 513-9345.

The massage therapy program at Elgin Community College offers a student-run massage clinic Saturday in the massage therapy clinic, Room 214 of the Advanced Technology Center on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Donate to Rover Rescue
Rover Rescue in Aurora is soliciting donations for its annual garage sale fundraiser to provide care for dogs rescued from high-kill shelters. Needed items include kitchenware, baby furniture, tools, small appliances, toys and books. Large appliances and pieces of furniture will not be accepted. Art fest needs helpers
Volunteers are needed for the Aug. 9 and 10 Art In Your Eye Festival at the Batavia Riverwalk. Positions include help with setup, tear-down, the information tent, hospitality for the visiting artists, parking and traffic management, and children's art activity assistance.
