Briefs: Flight for Life praised
Flight for Life and the Fox Lake Fire Department will kick off the department's 100th anniversary celebration by honoring former patient Jack LeMaster at Fire Station #2 at 306 Grand Ave. The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. today. The event will take place during the first of the four-day Fox Lake Fireman's Festival. The festival starts at 6 p.m. at the fire station. Online bulb recycling
A streamlined online service for recycling household waste, including compact fluorescent lamps, batteries and eventually other household electronics, was launched Wednesday. Waste Management Inc. said ThinkGreenFromHome.com offers mail-in solutions to safely store and recycle household items that contain heavy metals. It is expected that as many as 4 billion compact fluorescents will be in use by 2012 but safe and convenient recycling methods have been lacking, according to the company, which provides recycling and waste collection service to 30 Chicago-area communities. Customers can order prepaid postage kits suitable for the storage and transport of discarded bulbs or batteries.
New site for meeting
The Lake County Forest Preserve District board's next meeting won't be in Waukegan as usual but instead will be staged in a Round Lake-area preserve. The meeting is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Nippersink Forest Preserve, which is on Route 120 west of Cedar Lake Road. Attendees will meet in a picnic shelter on the site.
